This week, public markets started pricing AI by how each company pays for compute.
Alphabet grew revenue 25% and still had its worst trading day on record after reporting negative free cash flow. SpaceX committed to a roughly $40B GPU lease that runs about three years past the customer contract behind it. Anthropic’s S-1 named its compute counterparties and left the total blank.
At the same time, OpenAI cut mid-tier pricing to $1 and $5 per million tokens, Google’s Gemini 4 Carbon took the top spot on a rebuilt benchmark, and Kimi K3.1 Pro open weights are due November 4.
Intelligence got cheaper to rent and dearer to finance. Companies that own the compute carry the financing risk. Companies that rent it collect the deflation, and that is where our stage sits.
